What advice would you give to a graphic design student?

Below is a link to Frank Chimero’s Blog, where a reader asked what advice he would give a design student. Student or not, the list is a must read for every designer.

Frank Chimero: Advice for Students

Some of my favorites:

  • Design does not equal client work.
  • Everyone is just making it up as they go along.
  • If you meet a person who cares about the same obscure things you do, hold on to them for dear life. Sympathy is medicine.
  • If you can’t draw as well as someone, or use the software as well, or if you do not have as much money to buy supplies, or if you do not have access to the tools they have, beat them by being more thoughtful. Thoughtfulness is free and burns on time and empathy.

Tommorow

You start your day off in a foreign city. You start it off with a walk to the local hole in the wall for a bit. Once done, you leave, talking in the bright blue sky, warming sun and are lifted by the gentle wind.

You come to a grassy park lined with tulips. Hundreds of them in all colors. You wonder to yourself, can I do this everyday?

But tommorow I want to share it with her.

Birds

With the birds chirping, a gentle breeze blows making the garden of tulips dance.
